Class Description: Easy way to dye with indigo
The first class day will be preparing your items for the dye pot using items listed below. Be sure all items are washed before bringing them to fold. Shibori folds will be demonstrated along with other resist dyeing techniques. The morning will be filled with folding, clipping, banding, tying and sharing folding ideas.
The second class day will be putting your prepared items in the dye pot. There is a limit of 6-8 items per person depending on size of article…..there is just so much dye in the pot…
Maximum number of students: 8
Location: First class will be held at the Boarding House
Second class will be held at my house in Arden
Prerequisites: be able to put up with a sarcastic sense of humor
Fee: $60 for members or $70 for non-members
Materials fee: $10
PREPARATION FOR CLASS:
FIRST CLASS: Bring cotton, linen, silk, rayon or Tencel items to be dyed. This could be napkins, yarn, tablecloths, your favorite shirt, or any other items made of the previously listed fibers. Be sure to WASH all fibers before bringing them to class. I will have rubber bands, popsicle sticks, chopsticks, small wooden pieces, and binder clips for you to use to create resists which create the pattern you want. The thing to remember is that the resist stops the indigo from dyeing that particular area. Another way of creating a resist is with needle and thread or a 2-3” dia. PVC pipe about 15” long. I will show you samples of what you can create. Bring whatever else you would like to try.
SECOND CLASS: Bring your items ready to dye….resists have been applied and items are soaked in water overnight.
